Lučivná combines architecture, history, winter sports, and medical heritage. Religious buildings, the castle, the snowpark, a forest park, and a cycle path form clearly distinguishable thematic facets.

Culture

The cultural side of Lučivná can be explored through several periods and forms of expression. Religious architecture, a specific work of art, and the development of a castle complex provide different approaches to the history of the locality.

The Catholic Church in Lučivná was built in the Classical style and is dedicated to Saint Martin, the bishop. The painting “The Good Shepherd” by Peter Michal Bohúň is located in the Evangelical Church in Lučivná. Thus, two churches, each with its own architectural and artistic character, stand side by side in Lučivná.

The foundation stone of Lučivná Castle was laid around the year 1450. In 1584, the Tököli family had Lučivná Castle rebuilt in the Renaissance style. The family cemetery of the Sakmáry-Varadi family, associated with Lučivná Castle, has survived to this day. The castle’s history therefore encompasses both its medieval origins and its later reconstruction, as well as a still-preserved testament to the family’s history.

Orientation

Lučivná Castle is located 1.5 km from the Mengusovce exit of the D1 motorway. From Lučivná railway station, the castle can be reached on foot in about 10 minutes.

Activities

In winter, the snowpark emerges as a distinct focus with several types of offerings. The combination of lift operations, downhill runs, cross-country skiing, and snow tubing describes a versatile winter sports area with various ways of moving through the snow.

Lučivná Snowpark has four ski lifts. It offers 1.5 km of ski slopes and 3 km of cross-country ski trails. Lučivná Snowpark also has a snow tubing track. In addition, the snowpark offers panoramic views of the High Tatras.

Health and Nature

Another facet lies in the combination of treatment tradition and parkland. The health-related focus is named just as specifically as the facility’s historical origins and spatial extent.

The treatment tradition of Tatranské Kúpele Lučivná dates back to 1872. Tatranské Kúpele Lučivná extend across more than 47 ha of a forest park. Tatranské Kúpele Lučivná make a significant contribution to the medical treatment of non-tuberculous respiratory diseases in children and adults. The date, forest park, and medical connection are therefore independent characteristics of this facility.

Getting Around

An additional connection in the surrounding area is provided by the cycle path between Lopušná dolina and Lučivná. It was opened to the general public on June 6, 2021. The route complements the historical, winter, and health-related themes with a connection for cycling.
