River courses, three geological units and a multifaceted cultural history shape Zlaté Moravce. The town lies at the confluence of the Žitava River and the Hostiansky potok stream, also known as Zlatnianka. At the same time, Zlaté Moravce is situated at the transition between the Tribeč, the Pohronský Inovec and the Pannonian Basin represented by the Danubian Lowland. Different landscape areas therefore meet directly here.

Landscape

The preserved part of the former manor park is used as a city park for recreation. There is also a bicycle parking facility on the banks of the Žitava. The area around Zlaté Moravce offers good conditions for cycling tourism.

Culture

The museum in Zlaté Moravce is a regional history museum focusing on the upper Požitavie region and is housed in the Baroque Migazzi Manor House. The Migazzi Manor House was added to the list of National Cultural Monuments of the Slovak Republic on 2 October 1963. In the courtyard, a preserved stone well structure is presented as a historic feature of Zlaté Moravce.

The permanent exhibition The Migazzi Family was opened to visitors and presents the history of the Migazzi noble family. It includes a tea salon installation with objects that belonged to and were used by members of the Migazzi family. The exhibition also includes a salon of the Paluškov family, furnished with Baroque inlaid furniture from the 18th century. The Janko Kráľ Memorial House was built in the first half of the 19th century; the poet Janko Kráľ lived there from 1862 until his death.

The Migazzi family mausoleum was built in 1887 in the Neo-Romanesque style, is listed in the central register of cultural monuments and contains black marble sarcophagi. The Classicist Church of St. Michael the Archangel in Zlaté Moravce dates from 1785 and was rebuilt in 1823.

Paths and Activities

The Zlaté Moravce educational trail leads from the bus station through the town centre to Calvary with the Chapel of St. Anne. It is 6 kilometres long, takes approximately 2.5 hours and includes 13 stations as well as an introductory information board. The educational trail is self-guided and linear, can be walked in both directions, is a walking route and is accessible year-round. The local tourist association organises hiking and cycling tours almost all year round.

Other Activities

The outdoor summer swimming pool in Zlaté Moravce has a 50-metre swimming pool and two small children’s pools. The winter stadium on Továrenská Street is open during the season and is used for recreational ice skating and ice hockey matches. TJ Sokol offers organised individual sport climbing on an artificial climbing wall. Climbing competitions for the Slovak Cup and the Slovak Junior Championships are organised annually.
