Holiday apartment in Marcelová: Nature, Churches and Archery Tradition
Marcelová represents a combination of sacred buildings, a historic archery tradition and two clearly defined nature reserves. The town thus brings together different facets that can be explored through specific buildings, traditional customs and named landscape areas.
Culture
One prominent building is the Baroque Roman Catholic Church of St John the Baptist. It dates from 1731. Next to it stands the Reformed Church in Marcelová, which was built in 1803 as a Neoclassical Toleration Church without a tower. It received a tower in 1836 and was restored in 1906. Both churches preserve different chapters of the local architectural history.
The local cultural landscape of Marcelová also includes the chapel above the “miraculous spring” in the former park of the Pálffy family. In Krátke Kesy, part of the upper manor house of the Baranyai family has been preserved. Local cultural celebrations are also held in Marcelová.
Another cultural peculiarity is the historic Fekete Sólyom archery association, also called Čierny Sokol, which has been based in Marcelová since 2006. Fekete Sólyom conveys the culture and combat customs of ancient Hungarian and Avar archers through historical clothing and equipment. At historical festivals at home and abroad, the association performs dynamic archery demonstrations.
Nature
The natural area includes two nature reserves of distinctly different sizes. The Marcelovské Piesky Nature Reserve covers 4.5 hectares and lies in the cadastral area of Krátke Kesy. The Pohrebište Nature Reserve is considerably larger at 69.3 hectares and lies in the cadastral area of Marcelová. The protected areas are therefore each assigned to a specifically named cadastral area.
Location
Marcelová lies on the road between Komárno and Štúrovo. Roads from Chotín, Šrobárová and Virt also lead to Marcelová. This location and the connections mentioned form the geographical framework for exploring Marcelová and its associated parts.
