Štós combines a clearly defined spa stay with churches, a museum, parkland and a winter sports event. Kúpele Štós offers a seven-day speleotherapy stay that combines therapy in underground cave spaces with climate therapy. The seven-day period gives the spa stay a clear timeframe. The combination of underground cave spaces and climate therapy also highlights its distinctive focus. The grounds of Kúpele also preserve original architecture from the late 19th and early 20th centuries as well as from the interwar period, together with a protected historic park. This range of therapy, religious buildings, museum holdings, parkland and a winter sports event gives Štós several clearly distinct facets.
Wellness
The Vital Water World at Kúpele Štós includes water and steam baths, herbal, eucalyptus and Finnish saunas, a vitality shower, a water circuit, a hydromassage pool and a tepidarium. The named areas therefore range from various types of bathing and several kinds of sauna to facilities for water- and heat-based treatments.
Culture and history
The Roman Catholic church in Štós is probably the oldest building in the municipality and was built in the second half of the 13th century. Its main altar, featuring a painting of Saint John of Nepomuk, was erected in 1727. The church thus combines an early construction history with a specifically dated altar and an image of a named saint.
Construction of the Evangelical church in Štós began in 1786; it was consecrated on 28 September 1788. Its defining feature is an altar with an oil painting of Jesus Christ. The Zoltán Fábry Museum in Štós also houses a valuable library. Alongside the churches, a named museum collection is therefore another cultural point of interest in the town.
Nature
The forest park of Kúpele Štós is designated as a national cultural monument of Slovakia. It contains more than 200 species of trees and flowers and is complemented by streams with cascades and a fountain. Its protected status, biodiversity and water features are all cited together in connection with this forest park.
Winter
The POLNER CUP venue, Polnerová lúka on the northern side of Tupý vrch, can be reached on foot from Štós in one to one and a half hours. The one- to one-and-a-half-hour estimate places the route from Štós in a specific timeframe; the name and location of Polnerová lúka further identify the venue precisely.
The ski races for the title “Champion of Štós” at Polnerová lúka have been called POLNER CUP since 1984. Participants in the POLNER CUP prepare scrambled eggs in cauldrons over an open fire and add various types of homemade sausage. The event therefore includes the competition for the aforementioned title, the name used since 1984 and this distinctive method of preparation.
