Activities

A blue-marked hiking trail runs through Opátka. To the north, it continues via the ATC turistclub signpost at an elevation of 330 m to the Ružín–Košické Hámre recreation area on the Ružín Reservoir. In a southerly direction, the blue-marked hiking trail leads from Opátka to the Idčianske sedlo signpost at an elevation of 954 m.

There is also a designated cycling route: a blue-marked cycle path begins in Opátka and leads to Košice. The Kojšovská hoľa panoramic summit is also one of the most significant tourist attractions associated with Opátka.

History

Opátka was first mentioned in 1324 under the name Apokapotoka. In 1808, during a flourishing period of mining, the village reached its highest population, with approximately 500 inhabitants.

For a long time, Opátka was divided into two parts, which belonged to the Moldavian and Spiš counties. Each part had its own mill, cemetery and inn.

After copper ore mining was discontinued and the copper works were subsequently shut down and dismantled towards the end of the 19th century, presumably because they were unprofitable, Opátka gradually began to decline economically and socially. This development marked the transition from the flourishing mining period to a considerably more difficult phase in the village's history.

Culture

The Church of Saint Florian was built in 1784 and restored in 1845 and at the end of the 19th century. On the front of its triumphal arch are half-length figures of two miners. This is a folk-style painting from the first half of the 19th century.

Another historic building is the administrative building of the copper hammers. It is a single-storey late Baroque building with two wings and a mansard roof dating from the 1770s. The building is currently inhabited and privately owned.

Experiences

MIMI farma offers experience-based learning through a meeting with a beekeeper, as well as the opportunity to observe live bees up close. This is complemented by the practical production of beeswax candles. MIMI farma also offers tastings of Slovak honey.

Anyone wishing to stay in Opátka for several days or longer can consider a suitable room layout for the holiday apartment and think about how much time they intend to spend there. This makes it possible to coordinate the length of the stay, personal daily rhythm and the way the stay is arranged. These three considerations provide a clear framework for planning without unnecessarily restricting it.
