An unusual trail through Vyšný Klátov is dedicated to astronomy: the Klátovské meteority educational trail begins in the village, where four information panels are located. Nature
The cadastral territory of Vyšný Klátov includes part of the Volovské vrchy Special Protection Area for birds. The village lies in the Volovské vrchy mountain range, which belongs to the Slovenské rudohorie mountain region. Geographically, Vyšný Klátov is located at the transition between the northwestern part of the Košická kotlina basin and the Slovenské rudohorie, while also lying in the source area of the Myslavský potok stream. At 947 metres, Predné Holisko is the highest peak in the cadastral territory of Vyšný Klátov.
Hiking and Cycling
A blue-marked hiking route begins in Vyšný Klátov and leads to the nearby Jahodná sports and recreation centre. A yellow-marked hiking route to the Lajoška mountain hut also starts in the village. This yellow route continues to Železný vrch, which lies at an elevation of 817.5 metres.
A blue-marked cycling route also passes through Vyšný Klátov. In the nearby area, the Lajoška mountain hut is located below the summit of Predná Holica at an elevation of 908 metres.
History and Culture
The history of Vyšný Klátov includes a period as a German colony from 1317 to 1773. This era was connected with the exploration of mineral resources and the mining and processing of iron ore.
An architectural landmark of the village is the Church of the Holy Trinity. It was built in 1869 on the site of an older church and incorporates the tower of the older church. Its interior features historicist Art Nouveau altars from the first half of the 20th century.
The Folk Culture Mini-Museum was established in 2001 in a former village smithy. It displays historical furniture, household and agricultural objects, as well as homemade traditional costumes and embroideries.
Community and Transport
The Koinonia Ján Krstiteľ community centre was founded in 1994 in eastern Slovakia near Košice and offers spiritual and recreational activities. The ŽIJEM festival in Vyšný Klátov continued a more than ten-year tradition of CHRISTILAND. The bus service to Vyšný Klátov is operated by Eurobus Košice.
