Holiday apartment in Budimír – culture, park and historic clocks

Budimír is located in the Košice Basin in the valley of the Torysa River, about 12 km from Košice. The village combines an exceptionally diverse historic ensemble with exhibitions, religious buildings and a significant park.

Culture

The manor house of Budimír is at the heart of the village’s history. It is a Neoclassical Theresian building from the second third of the 18th century. It served as the seat of the Ujházy family branch and is situated in a French park. The manor house hosts changing small-scale exhibitions on the history of technology, history and art. The site also includes the Sýpka, which serves as a venue for regularly held antiques and curiosities fairs.

An exhibition of historic clocks covers the typological development of clockworks and the artistic design of clock cases from the beginning of the 18th century to the first third of the 20th century. The exhibits include brass wall clocks from 1760 from the workshop of Košice clockmaker Lehner, a pocket watch known as the Nuremberg Egg from 1630, and French Boulle clocks from 1720. The exhibition also features portraits of the manor’s owners from the Ujházy family.

History

Budimír’s historic buildings include the old Evangelical church. It dates from the end of the 18th century and is located in the historic park. Originally, it was the crypt of the Evangelical Ujházy family branch. Information panels about the history of the municipality are located nearby.

The Roman Catholic church of Budimír dates from the 15th century. It was remodeled in the Neoclassical style in the 20th century. Another historic landmark is “Paradni dvor”, a compact historic building complex on a raised terrace above Fišerovec.

Nature

Budimír Park is a significant public green space of historic and garden-architectural value. It is a national monument and is registered in the Central Register of Monuments of the Slovak Republic under number 413/5. The park has an accessible entrance. Together with the French park at the manor house, it forms the landscape setting for the village’s historic buildings.
