Holiday apartment in Dubové: Nature, Culture and Cycling Route

Dubové lies on the northeastern slopes of the Žiar Mountains on the left bank of the Turiec River. The landscape and village character combine natural features with a long history and vibrant local culture.

Nature

The 750-hectare Mokrade Turca area (Turiec Wetlands), site number 932, also includes the cadastral territory of Dubové. The wetland is home to rare, endangered and critically endangered species and serves as a migration corridor for waterfowl. At the same time, it provides native fish and other aquatic animals with spawning and nursery grounds.

About half of Dubové's municipal territory is without forests, while the rest is characterized by dense woodland. The municipality is also home to a carbonated mineral spring located between the road and the Turiec River. A forest path leads from the nearby spa town of Turčianske Teplice through Diviacky háj to Dubové. The surrounding area is known in summer and autumn for the occurrence of large quantities of mushrooms.

The various landscape features have clear spatial relationships: the wetland is part of the cadastral territory, the spring lies between the road and the river, and the forest path connects the spa town with the village through Diviacky háj. Open municipal areas and dense forests form the landscape contrast in which these natural features are situated. The seasons mentioned also indicate the period during which the surrounding area is known for abundant mushrooms.

History and Village Character

The first written reference to Dubové dates from 1262, when the village was mentioned as Doboa. In the upper part of Dubové stands a bell tower dating from 1873. Old masonry houses with raised side entrances shape the character of the village and are adapted to the slightly uneven terrain.

The Dvor roľnícky farmstead in Dubové, with house numbers 60 and 170, is registered in the Central Register of the Slovak Monument Fund as a national cultural monument under number 11973/1-2. The monument is listed as a monument property in the register of national cultural monuments. A monument in Dubové commemorates those who fell in the 1944 battles.

Culture

The Prameň folklore ensemble has existed in Dubové since 1983. Prameň performs on every occasion at the local cultural centre, in other municipalities and at other events. During the Carnival season, members of Prameň sing and dance their way through the village.

Dubové also has amateur theatre groups for adults and children. Together with the folklore ensemble and the registered monuments, this cultural diversity is one of the village's clearly visible characteristics.

Cycling

Cycle route 8474 Dubové–Požehy–Štubňa starts before Dubové and runs through the village. It is 6 km long, classified as an easy recreational MTB route, and runs on asphalt and paved paths.
