Holiday apartment in Čremošné: trails, forests and culture

Čremošné lies at the southwestern foothills of the Veľká Fatra and in a side valley of the Žarnovica stream. The terrain within the municipality is hilly to mountainous. Below and above the village lie the small and large Čremošnianske lazy respectively, in the form of grass-covered ridges. Together with the beech and spruce forests, these landscape features shape the immediate surroundings of Čremošné. The different elevations of the lazy are just as much part of the village landscape as the terrain defined by meadows and forests.

Nature and hiking

The protected nature of the Veľká Fatra has been designated a national park since 2002. There are beech and spruce forests in the area of Čremošné. A hike to the Čremošnianske lazy can begin in Čremošné. The trail leads across meadows and is not demanding. The Čremošnianske lazy offer beautiful views in all directions. This means that the same trail takes in the village area, the open grass-covered ridges and the wooded parts of the municipality. The names of the small and large lazy also preserve the distinction between the two designated landscape forms.

Cycling and access

The yellow-marked cycle route 8422 leads from Háj via Čremošné and the Žarnovická dolina to Kostolec. Its route therefore connects several places and sections of landscape in one continuous link. Čremošné can be reached by car from Turčianske Teplice via Háj. The nearest railway connection is in Turčianske Teplice. A railway line towards Banská Bystrica also runs beneath Čremošné. This railway line passes through 22 tunnels, including the 4,697 m long Čremošniansky Tunnel.

Culture and history

Preserved examples of folk architecture can be seen in Čremošné. Another named site is the Čremošniansky Tunnel, a railway tunnel in the cadastral territories of Čremošné, Mošovce and Dolný Harmanec. It is designated a national cultural monument. The railway line beneath Čremošné and the 4,697 m long tunnel thus represent both the technical side of the village's history and a geographical connection extending beyond the municipality. The Žarnovická dolina commemorates the last meeting of the illegal Slovak National Council and the leadership of the illegal military centre on 27 July 1944, before the Slovak National Uprising. Alongside the architectural monument, the dolina therefore also points to a specific historical event.

Local products

Syráreň Polun processes milk from its own sheep into dairy products and invites visitors to visit the farm and taste the products made there. The origin of the milk and its processing into the products made there together form part of this named local business.

Traditions

Local traditions include Fašiangové celebrations and May celebrations, which are organised several times a year by the local fire brigade. Both forms of celebration are thus identified as elements of the local annual cycle supported by the fire brigade.
