Budiš lies in the southwestern part of the Turčianska kotlina basin, at the foot of the Žiar Mountains and in the spring area of the Jasenica stream. The village combines this setting with wooded hills, mineral springs, the Žiar cycling circuit and its local history.

Geographical setting

Budiš’s location connects the basin landscape of the Turčianska kotlina with the foothills of the Žiar Mountains. The Jasenica stream rises within the municipality. This geographical setting is one of the defining local characteristics of Budiš.

Nature

The municipal area of Budiš is predominantly forested and hilly. Fir-beech forests and spruce forests grow at higher elevations. Budiš is also home to three mineral springs located along a tectonic fault.

Cycling

The Žiar cycling circuit between Sklené and Budiš and back is 36.5 kilometres long and classified as a moderately difficult sport mountain-bike route. In the direction of Budiš, the circuit turns onto a forest road before reaching the village and climbs towards the Štyri chotáre locality. Its length, classification and route give the cycling offer a distinctly sporting character. The route therefore continues from the connection between Sklené and Budiš via the turn-off before the village to the uphill Štyri chotáre locality. Within this description, the circuit, MTB classification and forest road mark different sections of the same route.

Experiences

The excursion programme of the Turčianske Teplice spas includes visiting and tasting the mineral springs in Dubovom and Budiš. From Turčianske Teplice, the mineral spring can be reached by car in approximately 13 minutes in the direction of Nitrianske Pravno; no public transport goes to the spring. There is also a publicly accessible mineral spring west of Budiš. From the car park on the main road between Budiš and Jasenovo, it is approximately 100 metres to the spring. The two spring sites described differ in how they are presented: one belongs to the excursion programme departing from Turčianske Teplice, while the other is mentioned west of Budiš together with a car park and a short path to the spring.

History

The history of the voluntary fire brigade in Budiš dates back to 1891. Above Budiš, at Na Hutách, a glassworks operated for the production of glass items. Its activity lasted for more than a century and is probably dated to the period between 1750 and 1870.

Culture

After the glassworks ceased operation, representatives of the noble family concerned built three tourist villas at Na Hutách. The three tourist villas in Na Hutách were later made accessible to visitors from Budiš and the wider surrounding area.

Budiš also has an ensemble of folk architecture consisting of single-storey, three-room log houses. The houses have gabled roofs and characteristic Podlomenica details. The features of the ensemble lie in the combination of single-storey construction, a three-room layout, a gabled roof and Podlomenica details. The present day is also part of the local events calendar: one event currently organised by the municipality is the municipality’s sledding event.
