Liptovská Lúžna: Nature, Trails and Culture

Liptovská Lúžna lies in the Lúžňanska kotlina basin formed by the Lúžňanka River, directly below the ridge of the Low Tatras. The entire cadastral area of Liptovská Lúžna lies within the protected zone of the Low Tatras National Park.

Nature

The KUBO mineral spring is located in the Bory area of the village. The mineral springs in the Banské Valley are popular destinations for family outings and walks. The Hučiaky gorges can be visited to experience distinctive natural landscapes; the Meandre Lúžňanky natural monument can also be visited.

A path through a meadow offers views of the Lúžanské Meandre of the Lúžňanka stream, with clear, slow-flowing water. The named natural attractions therefore differ in form – from springs and gorges to watercourses and a natural monument.

Trails and Activities

The Ráztoky Valley has walking trails through easily accessible terrain. A full-day hiking tour leads from Liptovská Lúžna through the Ráztocká Valley and over the Ráztocké sedlo saddle to Salatín. A cycling route leads from Liptovská Lúžna via Prievalec and Železnô to Magurka and back. The easily accessible terrain in the Ráztoky Valley thus contrasts with a full-day route over Ráztocké sedlo and a cycling route with several named intermediate locations.

The different types of activity can be considered separately according to terrain, duration and means of travel. Walks, full-day hikes and cycling routes represent different daily rhythms, without combining the individual routes into one shared route.

Winter

The cross-country ski trail is prepared by volunteers from ŠKC Liptovská Lúžna with the support of the municipal administration. It begins immediately next to the Meandre Lúžňanky. Parking for the trail is available directly on the main road at the turn-off to the Meandre Lúžňanky natural monument.

Culture and Villagescape

The present-day Church of the Holy Trinity was built between 1843 and 1848. A monument to those who fell in the Slovak National Uprising stands on Kečka Mountain. Liptovská Lúžna is characterised by a chain-like linear settlement along the road, with log houses, several of which are cultural monuments.

The church, monument and log houses create distinct cultural accents: architectural history, remembrance of the Slovak National Uprising and traditional building forms each represent a separate aspect of the villagescape.

Getting There

Liptovská Lúžna can be reached by car or bus. The road to Liptovská Lúžna branches off in Liptovská Osada from the E 77 between Ružomberok and Banská Bystrica.
