The first documentary records of Košťany nad Turcom date from 1323; at that time, the village was mentioned as “villa Coschan”. The year 1848 was also an important turning point in its social and economic development. After the abolition of serfdom, crafts and trade began to develop in Košťany nad Turcom. Before that, agriculture had been the inhabitants' main occupation in the 18th and 19th centuries.
