In Liptovský Ján, nature trails lead to mineral springs, while museums bring regional history to life. Water also shapes the town: the Jánska dolina valley begins in the spa town of Liptovský Ján, while springs and swimming-pool areas demonstrate different forms of use.

Nature and nature trails

The nature trail to the Medokýš mineral spring connects Liptovská Porúbka, Liptovský Ján and Liptovský Hrádok. Six information boards along the route provide information about biodiversity, the history of the surrounding municipalities and traditional activities. Another nature trail is called Brána do Jánskej doliny. It begins next to the car park of the Liptovský dvor resort in Jánska dolina near Liptovský Ján.

The underground landscape includes Stanišovská Cave. It is 410 metres long, and a visit takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes. The cave is explored without electric lighting, using a headlamp and accompanied by an experienced guide.

History and culture

To this day, 16 manor houses from the original group remain in the historic centre of Liptovský Ján. One of the notable buildings is the Roman Catholic Church of St John the Baptist. It was built in the Gothic style and received the “Cultural Monument of the Year” award in 2023.

The Svätojánske Museum presents an exhibition about the Sentiványi family from Liptovský Ján. An exhibition on the history of Liptovský Ján provides information about the origins of the municipality, its sights, notable personalities and their culture. The museum also presents an exhibition about the Čajak family and almost all of the Čajaks’ literary works.

The various sections of the museum therefore bring together several layers: they range from the history of the town and the families mentioned there to literature, notable personalities and culture. This presentation is complemented by the opportunity to practically recreate historical work processes using the available tools and equipment.

The exhibition is housed in an original building next to the Church of St John the Baptist on the outskirts of Liptovský Ján. There, visitors can crush ore using original tools and equipment, process it in washing troughs, work it in forges and then mint coins.

Water and spa town

The Teplica spring is the only spring in Liptovský Ján used both for drinking and bathing. It provides 20 °C warm mineral water with proven healing properties. The swimming-pool area has four pools supplied with thermal water from the Rudolf Spring.

Further experiences

Mini Slovensko Park has a garden railway with trains running on several tracks. The miniature theme park displays detailed models of Slovak cultural monuments at a scale of 1:25. The two descriptions emphasise different aspects: one focuses on railway operations across several tracks, while the other centres on scale representations of Slovak cultural monuments.
