Holiday apartment in Vricko: Waterfall and culture in the Lesser Fatra
Vrícko is located in the Lúčanská part of the Lesser Fatra. The Vríca watercourse flows through the village. This combination of mountain landscape and watercourse is home to several natural, cultural and memorial sites that clearly differ from one another in character.
Nature and hiking
The Kľacký Waterfall is protected as a national natural monument in Vrícko. The waterfall is 30 metres high. The marked route from Vrícko to the Kľacký Waterfall follows the green hiking trail and takes approximately two hours.
The Kľak protected area is also part of this natural environment. It covers the cadastral territories of Vrícko and Fačkov and preserves valuable rock and forest plant communities. Its spatial scope therefore extends beyond the village and also includes the cadastral territory of Fačkov.
Culture and historical traces
The “Kostol sv. Bartolomeja” church in Vrícko was enlarged in 1787–1788 from an earlier Renaissance church. Its furnishings include a side altar of the Virgin Mary dating from 1715. The grounds also contain a bell tower dating from the 19th century, with three bells.
Several historical layers can be read side by side at the church: the enlargement points to the older Renaissance building, the side altar to the year 1715, while the bell tower is assigned to the 19th century. Together with the three-room log houses from the same century, this creates a chronological arc within the history of the village, connecting sacred furnishings with rural building forms.
Three-room log houses from the 19th century stand in Vrícko.
The Park of the 20th Anniversary of the Liberation in Vrícko was created in 1965. Its grounds are located on the ruins of four houses from the Second World War period.
Memorial sites
A monument to three victims executed in 1944 was erected in the nearby Nitra Valley in 1962. Another monument stands below Reváň and commemorates 17 unknown heroes who fell in December 1944.
The local cemetery is also connected with this commemoration: these fallen soldiers are buried there. The cemetery monument dedicated to them is registered as a monument object in the “mass grave” category. The memorial sites are thus distributed across the Nitra Valley, the area below Reváň and the local cemetery.
