Holiday apartment in Sutovo: Šútovský Waterfall and Nature

Šútovo opens up views of a landscape with waterfalls, springs, protected nature and traditional crafts. The Šútovský Waterfall lies at an altitude of 830 m in the Krivánska Malá Fatra, about 4 km north of Šútovo. From Šútovo, the waterfall can be reached via a blue-marked hiking trail. At 38 m high, it is the highest waterfall in the Malá Fatra.

Nature

The area's waterways also include the Mojžišove Springs. The springs emerge at an altitude of 1,140 m from a rock face on the eastern slope of the southern peak of Steny in the Krivánska Fatra. Their water feeds the Šútovský Stream and the Šútovský Waterfall. From Šútovo, the Mojžišove Springs can be reached through the Šútovská Valley and past the Šútovský Waterfall.

Another landscape feature is the Šútovská epigenéza. The area covers 52.19 hectares, is protected at the fourth level and forms part of Malá Fatra National Park. The Šútovská epigenéza is a natural monument at the confluence of the Váh and the Šútovský Stream. It lies in the cadastral territories of Ratkovo and Šútovo in Martin District.

The protected area and its location at the confluence therefore differ from the higher-lying bodies of water. In the landscape around Šútovo, a 38 m-high waterfall, springs on a rock face and a protected natural monument stand alongside one another at different geographical points.

Hiking

The connection between the natural sites can be seen particularly clearly on the summer variant of the Šútovská Valley educational trail. This trail is almost 9 km long and leads from the Šútovský Waterfall through steeper mountain terrain to the Mojžišove Springs and Chata pod Chlebom. The route thus forms a continuous course from the waterfall via the springs to this mountain hut, with the steeper terrain explicitly forming part of the route.

At almost 9 km long, the summer variant is described as a continuous educational trail. The named stops follow a fixed sequence: from the waterfall through the Šútovská Valley to the springs and then to Chata pod Chlebom. There are six information boards along the educational trail.

On the way to the Šútovský Waterfall, visitors can also stop for food and drinks at Chata Vodopád. The Šútovská epigenéza has its own access route: a path from the local football pitch in Šútovo leads to the summit of the natural monument. Thus, different starting points in the village or along the route are specified for the two natural destinations.

History

In addition to the trails and natural monuments, local crafts are also part of Šútovo's traditional history. The village had mills and smithies; it also had a developed basket-weaving craft. These three areas of craftsmanship complement the landscape description with the local working and craft tradition.
