Dubové is particularly clearly reflected in the route of the Barborská cesta. The hiking trail leads via Sedlo Volárska to Dubové and from there continues along the edge of a lightly trafficked paved road to Bacúrov. In the village, the same route leads to the buildings of the agricultural cooperative at the entrance to Dubové and continues in the direction of Bacúrov. In this way, the place name is connected with a clearly described route between Sedlo Volárska, Dubové and Bacúrov.

Church and village character

The church in Dubové can be opened by prior telephone appointment at +421 910 924 520. The Evangelical church of Dubové is a Neoclassical building constructed in 1866–1867. Inside, it preserves an altar, a baptismal font and a pulpit dating from 1866. Its furnishings also include bells from 1868 and 1921. The church is in good condition and continues to serve its religious purpose. It stands on a hill northeast of the village centre.

History

The history of Dubové dates back to the Middle Ages: the village was first mentioned in 1255 as terra Duboudyl. In the same year, Dubové passed through a donation by Béla IV from the ownership of Zvolen Castle into the hands of Bertold, also called Pertold, a castle stonemason. The recorded history of the village thus mentions both an early written reference and a specific connection to Zvolen Castle and to a craftsman from its circle.

Culture and everyday life

Traditional home cooking in Dubové included Mrvenica, Halušky, potato soup and cabbage with meat. The historical household and craft tradition included making or maintaining rakes, pitchforks, brooms and tool handles. Birchwood brooms were sold in Zvolen and Banská Štiavnica; a piece cost between 80 hellers and 1 Kč. These traditional activities show the kitchen, household and crafts as closely connected, without this necessarily implying a present-day gastronomic or craft establishment.

The traditional cultural heritage of Dubové includes the folk songs collected under the title “Ľudové piesne z Dubového”. Beekeeping is also documented for the village: it was practised in Dubové on a small scale and was particularly well developed there in the 18th and 19th centuries.
