Breziny: Dobrá Niva Reservoir, Nature and Culture
Breziny lies on the Neresnica River, before it enters the Javorie Mountains. Nature, water, and culture can be explored here as distinct areas of interest without losing sight of the local history.
When choosing a holiday apartment in Breziny, travel dates, room category, and cancellation conditions are separate selection criteria alongside the local attractions. The water of Dobrá Niva Reservoir, the hilly landscape, and cultural monuments form distinct thematic areas; accommodation details and destination themes can therefore be considered independently of one another.
Landscape and Nature
Breziny lies in the northeastern part of the Pliešovská kotlina Basin. The hilly landscape consists of andesite and its tuffs; the western part contains a basalt flow. Large quantities of garnet-bearing andesite occur in the Homôlka quarry at an elevation of 503 metres. A reddish-brown garnet mineral also occurs in smaller and larger oval formations in the Homôlka quarry area. The combination of landforms, minerals, and wildlife observations offers several factual approaches to the landscape of Breziny.
Tree frogs, green lizards, slow worms, and owls, as well as numerous common bird and insect species, occur in the Breziny area. Those who enjoy following details can first observe the landforms and then select animal species or minerals as separate subjects of observation.
Water
Dobrá Niva Reservoir extends across the cadastral areas of Breziny and Dobrá Niva. It is designated as a carp fishing water; its fishing district number is 3-5010-1-1.
The access road from Breziny leads near the dam to a wooden pavilion at Dobrá Niva Reservoir. The wooden pavilion has a swing, seating, and a barbecue facility. At the water, the designation as a fishing water and the pavilion's facilities can be viewed as different aspects of the same area.
Culture and History
In the 12th century, the major trade route Via magna passed through the area of Breziny. The ruins of Dobronivá Castle in Podzámčok are a cultural monument. The building has three bells. The wooden crosses date from the 19th century and bear elements and signs of the original architecture.
In Breziny, celebrations marking the anniversary of the village's founding are held every ten years. The cultural event “Deň obce Breziny” was scheduled to take place on 24 August 2024 in the parking area in front of the cultural centre in Breziny. The second edition of the event “Deň obce Breziny” was scheduled to take place on 18 June 2022 from 2 p.m. in front of the municipal office in Breziny. The two dates therefore represent different points in time and event locations within the local history.
