History and Culture

Bzovská Lehôtka was probably established in the 14th century and founded by shepherds from Bzovík Abbey. The predominant occupation of the inhabitants of Bzovská Lehôtka remained cattle raising or shepherding.

An order issued in 1504 prohibited the subjects of Bzovská Lehôtka from driving livestock onto the pastures of Krupina. The specific prohibition thus names both the affected community and the location of the pastures, and is directly connected with the cattle raising of the time and the surrounding grazing areas.

The cemetery of Bzovská Lehôtka contains carved, polychrome wooden crosses made of beech or oak wood. Another distinctive feature is the Chapel of the Seven Sorrows of the Virgin Mary. It is a single-nave building with an attached tower and a Prussian vault. The wider regional area also contains the ruins of Stará Huta and Šášov.
