A hiking route leads through Babiná, Sása and Zaježová. In Sása, nature, hiking and architectural history come together.

Nature

The protected Gavurky area extends across the cadastral territories of the municipalities of Sása and Dobrá Niva. It covers 57.4 hectares and lies at an altitude of 444 to 470 metres above sea level. The area is suitable for a short walk or nature observation with a low level of difficulty; the nearest access from Sása is approximately 2 km away. The size specification and altitude range provide the natural area with a clearly defined geographical classification, while the low level of difficulty and short walk determine the character of the visit described.

History

The first written record of Sása dates from 1332 and 1337, when the village was mentioned in papal tithe registers. In 1351, Sása was granted town privileges corresponding to those of Babiná and Dobrá Niva.

Culture

The church dedicated to Saint Catherine of Alexandria stands on Kašteľ Hill in Sása. It was built towards the end of the first half of the 13th century as a single-nave, late Romanesque church. A fortification consisting of several two-metre-high and two-metre-wide ramparts and ditches was built around the Catholic church.

Another building is the evangelical church in Sása. It is a neoclassical building constructed between 1894 and 1899. Inside, it has a hall-like space with a straight altar end and a wooden beam ceiling. The church is in very good condition and continues to serve its purpose.

The memorial house in Sása is the former Roman Catholic parish house. It was built in the Baroque style in the mid-18th century; Andrej Truchlý-Sitniansky worked there.
