Holiday apartment in Dačov Lom: Folk architecture and rural traditions
In Dačov Lom, preserved folk-architecture buildings stand alongside ecclesiastical details, traditional crafts, folklore and local activities.
Culture
The preserved folk-architecture buildings in Dačov Lom include the house of Pavol Šajban, dating from 1812. The chamber in the Hlivárovcov-Fodorovských courtyard, dating from 1819, is also connected with the local history of construction. It is considered the most interesting preserved folk-architecture building in Dačov Lom.
The cultural side of the village is also reflected in its vibrant traditions. A folklore group has existed in Dačov Lom for many years under the leadership of Štefánia Selská. It represents the municipality at cultural events in the surrounding area and farther afield. Local traditions also include the production of traditional Hont lace and folk costumes. Traditional crafts focus on making wicker goods from willow rods, wooden tools and furniture, as well as objects made of horn.
A special historical ensemble is formed by the Evangelical church of Dačov Lom. It was originally built in the mid-13th century in the Romanesque style. Its nave received a painted wooden ceiling in 1713. A fragment of its Romanesque stone stepped portal with round shafts was inserted into and supplemented in the surrounding wall. The Evangelical church of Dačov Lom is listed in the Central Register of the Monument Fund of the Slovak Republic under number 610-1088/0.
Landscape
The landscape is also associated with a precisely identifiable watercourse and spring area. In the canyon on the slope at the western edge of the forest east of Strážnik, in the cadastral area of Dačov Lom, a gorge begins that leads to the western bank of the Lahoš. Two springs rise there; the lower one is known locally as Meričkovka.
Village life
Dačov Lom has a post office, a shop and a cultural centre. These facilities are just as much part of the character of the village as the traditional cultural activities and forms of craftsmanship associated with Dačov Lom.
Downhill skiing and two ski lifts are also recorded for Dačov Lom. In addition, the village is documented as having a rural tradition of cattle and sheep farming as well as cheese production. Thus, sporting and agricultural associations exist side by side, while folk architecture, the church, folklore and crafts form further distinct themes.
