Kesovce lies on the eastern edge of the Rimavská kotlina Basin, at the foot of the eastern part of the Cerová vrchovina Mountains and in the valley of a tributary of the Slaná. The village extends across elevations between 183 and 388 metres; the village centre is located at 197 metres. This geographical location alone gives Kesovce a clear landscape setting between the basin edge, mountains and valley.

Landscape

The cadastral area of Kesovce consists predominantly of unforested rolling hills. There are pronounced terraces in the west, while remnants of thermophilous downy oak forests and oak-hornbeam forests have been preserved in the east. The area therefore does not appear as a uniform expanse, but instead features different landscape forms within the village: open slopes and terraces contrast with wooded areas.

Nature

An unusual downy oak (Quercus virgiliana) grows in the surroundings of Kesovce. In addition, a rare narrow-leaved helleborine (Cephalanthera longifolia) grows in the surroundings of Kesovce beneath the spreading crown of this downy oak.

History

Kesovce has been mentioned in written sources since 1232. Visible historical traces include the ruins of a Reformed church, a single-nave Neoclassical building with a segmental apse and a projecting tower dating from 1859. The ruins are currently abandoned; the nave has no roof. Thus, both the building's architectural form and its present condition are central to this structure.

Events

In 2024, Kesovce held a celebration to mark the opening of its bell tower. Detský deň is also a traditional event in Kesovce; it took place on 3 June 2026. Both dates are among the village's stated public events, while marking different aspects of local event life.

A new bus stop was built in Kesovce as part of local improvements. Public transport in Kesovce is provided by buses operated by SAD Lučenec.
