Holiday apartment in České Brezovo: Forest, views and hiking trails

České Brezovo lies in the Poltarica Valley, through which the stream of the same name flows. More than 71 percent of the cadastral area is covered by forest. There are also hiking trails, viewpoints, churches and events that connect the village with nature, history and community life.

Nature and landscape

From the “Rozhľadňa České Brezovo – Hrb”, České Brezovo, Vaľkovo, Slaná Lehota, Poltár, Rimavská Sobota and the Stolické vrchy are intended to be visible in a panoramic view. The “Rozhľadňa České Brezovo – Hrb” is planned as a 14.5-metre-high, four-storey lookout tower. The lookout tower was built as small-scale tourist infrastructure for public use by residents and visitors to České Brezovo.

The Hrb lookout area includes a well-maintained rest area suitable for families with children. There is also a visitors’ book on the top level. A completed pavilion serves as a rest area for residents and visitors by the “Altánok pri studničke” spring.

Hiking and views

The routes described run from Zlatno to Jasenina and from Zlatno to České Brezovo. The 8.8-kilometre hiking route from Zlatno railway station to Jasenina runs through České Brezovo for 5.8 kilometres. It mostly follows unpaved paths; 7.5 of the 8.8 kilometres are designated as an unpaved road. Another easy hiking route of approximately 8 kilometres from Zlatno to České Brezovo leads to the remains of the former České Brezovo Castle on Hradná stráň.

For the announced community hike to Jasenina, the start was scheduled for 9 a.m. in front of the České Brezovo municipal office. At the announced hike, refreshments were to be available for all participants at the lookout tower at the destination.

Culture and history

The Evangelical church in České Brezovo was consecrated on 15 October 1922 and built according to a design by the architect Milan Michal Harminc. Its exterior combines Art Nouveau with Neo-Romanesque elements. The church continues to be used for services.

Vaľkovo also belongs to České Brezovo. The Evangelical church there was built in 1836 on the site of a wooden Toleration church dating from 1786. Inside, it contains an Art Nouveau altar from 1894 with Neoclassical elements. It was created by the sculptor J. Dien from Miskolc. The Evangelical church in Vaľkovo also continues to be used for services.

Community life and regional cuisine

České Brezovo holds Community Day together with commemorative events marking the anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising at the local sports field. A recurring pre-Christmas event for children is Mikuláš Evening at the cultural centre, where children receive packets of sweets.

Books are available to readers at the B. Tablica municipal library. At the municipal slaughter festival announced for 15 February 2025 in České Brezovo, visitors could sample traditional slaughter specialities.
