Culture and History

Ozdín has a wooden bell tower built in 1784 as a piece of traditional folk craftsmanship. Winter feather-plucking gatherings are also part of the local annual cycle. At these local gatherings, participants make feather dusters; hot tea with rum is served, along with corn with poppy seeds, nuts or sugar. Every year, Ozdín also maintains the tradition of putting up and later taking down maypoles.

Ozdín’s Protestant church was built in 1813 on the site of a Gothic religious building dating from the 15th century. The Neoclassical altar in the Protestant church bears a painting of Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane by František Gyurkovits. The church also has a massive tower with a Gothic core. Several elements from different periods and styles therefore stand alongside one another in this building.

In Ozdín, a fire is lit to commemorate the end of the Second World War. This event is one of the local traditions, as are putting up and later taking down the maypoles. The bell tower and the church are among the historic buildings found in Ozdín.

Hiking

Ozdín Castle dates back to the 13th century. The area around the ruins of Ozdín Castle is suitable for hiking and picnics. Access to Ozdín Castle from the Protestant church follows a walkable forest path; the climb takes approximately 45 minutes. There is a fire pit next to the shelter on the path to Vrch Hrad.
