Culture and History

The Cetatea de Scaun a Sucevei was built during the reign of Petru I. Mușat in 1374 and was first documented on 10 February 1388. The complex features permanent museum exhibitions with audiovisual content and interactive elements for visitors.

The Muzeul Satului Bucovinean conveys the organisation and complex life of a traditional village in Bukovina. The presentation includes the traditional architecture of residential buildings and communal structures, technical installations, occupations and crafts, as well as the way of life of the inhabitants. The museum has workshops where traditional craft techniques can be demonstrated and taught to children and tourists.

The Muzeul de Istorie is housed in a listed building from the early 20th century. The building formerly housed the prefecture during the Austrian period. The permanent exhibition focuses on local history through archaeological discoveries and events connected with what is now Suceava County.

The Hanul Domnesc has been documented since 1627 and was originally the home of the Moldavian ruler Miron Barnovschi before being converted into an inn. The permanent exhibition at the Hanul Domnesc presents six ethnographic zones of Suceava County: Fălticeni, Humor, Dorna, Rădăuţi, Câmpulung Moldovenesc and Suceava. The ground floor reconstructs an 18th- and 19th-century inn that accommodated distinguished guests, officials and merchants.

The Casa Memorială „Simion Florea Marian“ houses a memorial and documentary collection comprising six rooms. It includes historic furniture, personal belongings, books, manuscripts, correspondence and photographs. The Observator Astronomic și Planetariu of USV conducts astronomical education activities.

Religious Sites

The Biserica Sfântul Gheorghe of Mănăstirea Sf. Ioan cel Nou was built between 1514 and 1522 and covered inside and out with frescoes in 1534. Mănăstirea Sf. Ioan cel Nou, together with the Biserica Sfântul Gheorghe, is included in the UNESCO list of architectural monuments.
