Nature and Hiking

At Obcina Mare near Solca, hiking trails with an easy to moderate level of difficulty begin. The trail network therefore includes both easier routes and trails that reach a moderate level of difficulty. One of these connections is the Dragoșa–Pietrele Muierilor–Pârâul Șoarecu–Voivodeasa hiking trail, which continues in the direction of Solca.

The route names several distinct local and landscape features: Dragoșa, Pietrele Muierilor, Pârâul Șoarecu and Voivodeasa. This means that its connection in the direction of Solca remains clearly identified through the individual names as well.

West of the town, beyond several wooded ridges, lies a group of large rocks. Its local name is Pietrele Muierilor. The rock group is therefore one of the named landscape features in the surroundings of Solca and is also included in the aforementioned hiking trail.

On the left slope of the Solcuța stream, below Mount Cerbul, lies a mineral spring called Burcut. Another group of springs is located in Slatina Mare: the springs most frequently visited locally there are chlorosodic and lie at an altitude of 650 m.

The two references to springs concern different locations: Burcut is associated with the Solcuța stream and Mount Cerbul, while the chlorosodic springs in Slatina Mare are identified by their altitude of 650 m.

Roads and Connections

In the central area, National Road DN 2E (Păltinoasa–Marginea) passes through Solca. Its connection extends from European Route E576 to the tourist road route leading to the religious sights of Putna and Moldovița.

A second important connection is National Road DN 2K. It leads via Arbore and Milișăuți to a connection with European Route E85. The two roads are therefore described with different directions and via different places: DN 2E runs via Păltinoasa and Marginea, while DN 2K leads via Arbore and Milișăuți to E85.

Thus, two named road connections for Solca are documented along with their respective intermediate locations and higher-level connections: DN 2E with E576 as well as Putna and Moldovița, and DN 2K with Arbore, Milișăuți and E85.

Culture and History

Solca Monastery was built between 1612 and 1622 as a foundation of Prince Ștefan Tomșa. It is dedicated to the Apostles Peter and Paul. The construction period, founder and dedication connect the monastery with the history of the town and give the building a clearly identifiable historical context.
