Dobrița: Wooden Monastery, Hillside Cellars and the Sohodol Gorges

Culture and History

The archaeological site Situl arheologic de la Dobrița – Uzina Sanatoriului is a settlement of the Coțofeni culture. The site is located on a hill west to north-west of the sanatorium complex. The archaeological site is therefore not within the sanatorium itself, but on the hill situated to the west to north-west.

The Mănăstirea Sfântul Ilie Tesviteanul monastery was built entirely from wood in the Maramureș style. The foundation stone of the monastery church was laid in 2005. The monastery church was consecrated on 20 July 2010. The monastery is located near the sanatorium in Dobrița. It stands on a rocky plateau at an altitude of 800 metres. The two dates refer to the monastery church and mark the period between the laying of the foundation stone and its consecration.

A 19th-century hillside cellar is part of Dobrița’s protected cultural heritage. The medieval hillside cellars of Dobrița are among the historical tourism features of Gorj County. The individual 19th-century cellar and the medieval hillside cellars thus stand alongside one another as distinct historical references.

The Monumentul eroilor Obelisc monument in Dobrița bears an inscription. It commemorates the heroes of the Dobrița commune. The monument is classified as a war memorial.

Village Culture

Traces of traditional life have been preserved in Dobrița. These include houses with raised ground floors above cellars. The houses have front verandas. Their roofs are hipped roofs. The raised ground floors, cellars, verandas and hipped roofs shape the traditional architectural features of these houses.

The Muzeul Arhitecturii Populare din Gorj in Curtișoara presents the Gospodăria Dobrița ensemble. In the museum, the ensemble bears the name Casa lui Harîngică Ion. It originates from Dobrița. In the museum, the ensemble includes the Casa Dobrița. A traditional peasant gate is also part of the ensemble. Thus, both the Casa Dobrița and the peasant gate are represented as components of this display.

The Dobrița village museum is regarded as a cultural tourism feature in Gorj County. The Gorj County cultural agenda for 2017 listed “Logodna vinului cu ulcica” as a commune celebration. In Dobrița, the celebration was organised by the commune administration and the Runcu Cultural Centre. The listing connects the name of the celebration with its association with the Dobrița commune and the two named organisers.
