Culture and History
Casa Țicleni comes from the town of Țicleni in Gorj County. It is a two-storey house. Its ground floor is partially “fortified”; the architecture is inspired by the old cule houses of Gorj.
The La Cetate site is a Geto-Dacian fortification from the La Tène period. The archaeological site “Fortificaţia Latene de la Ţicleni – La Cetate” is located 2 km southwest of Ţicleni and 2 km southwest of the Cioiana stream.
The Adormirea Maicii Domnului Church in Tunși retains its ship-like shape. It has a bell tower clad in wood.
The older Sfântul Gheorghe Church next to the parish church of Țicleni was founded around 1800. In 1889, it was rebuilt from the ground up.
The Adormirea Maicii Domnului Church in the settlement of Tunși, which belongs to Țicleni, has its earliest documented date in 1601.
In 1969, a Roman Republican coin hoard was discovered on Dealul Bujorului in the Tunși district. It contained 240 Republican Roman silver denarii dating from 211–73 BC.
A church with the three patronal dedications “Adormirea Maicii Domnului,” “Sfântul Mare Mucenic Dimitrie, Izvorâtorul de Mir” and “Sfânta Cuvioasă Parascheva” stands on the plateau of Dealul Bujorului. It was built between 1897 and 1899. It was consecrated on 26 October 1899. The plateau lies at an elevation of 300 m.
The historical evidence is spread across different parts of the locality: La Cetate is situated southwest of Țicleni and southwest of the Cioiana stream, while the coin hoard and the church plateau are located in the Tunși district. The church information refers both to the parish church of Țicleni and to the settlement of Tunși.
Landscape and Nature
Țicleni lies in the valley of the Cioiana stream. To the north, the town is surrounded by the Subcarpathian hills between the Jiu and Gilort rivers, known as Dealurile lui Bran.
To the south, Țicleni is surrounded by the hills of the Getic Plateau.
The administrative territory of Țicleni includes part of the Coridorul Jiului Natura 2000 protected area (ROSCI0045), a European site of Community importance.

Tradition and Community
The “La Poalele Cetății” Festival held its seventh edition in 2025. It was dedicated to tradition, children and the community.
The festival was organized by the Gorj County Council, the Mayor’s Office and the Local Council of Țicleni through the Casa de Cultură Țicleni cultural center, CJCPCT Gorj and the “Constantin Brâncuși” School of Arts in Târgu Jiu.
The seventh edition in 2025 and the participating municipal and cultural institutions are therefore connected with a festival that explicitly brought tradition, children and the community together.
