The first documentary mention within the country of the Curtea Domnească in Târgoviște dates back to 1403. Those choosing Dâmbovița as a destination may wish to find a holiday apartment.
Culture and history
The Curtea Domnească in Târgoviște was designed as a building complex serving the ruler, his family, the courtiers, the servants and the guards. The Potlogi Palace is considered a landmark of the Brâncovenesc architectural style.
The Muzeul Evoluției Omului și Tehnologiei în Paleolitic is described as the first museum of its kind in Romania as well as in Central and Southeastern Europe. The Muzeul de Etnografie și Folclor – Pucioasa is located in Casa Dobrescu, a building typical of sub-Carpathian Muntenia.
The Casa-Atelier Gabriel Popescu is described as Romania’s only copperplate engraving studio house with a wooden press. It reopened in June 2016 after extensive restoration, modernization and enhancement works.
The Casa Romanței in Târgoviște is a museum space unique in Romania. Visitors can watch video recordings of the National Festival “Crizantema de aur” there.
Nature and landscape
Bucegi Nature Park is a protected area and part of the international Natura 2000 network of protected areas. Cheile Tătarului is a nature reserve in Dâmbovița County. Turbăria Lăptici is a botanical nature reserve in Dâmbovița County, and Canionul Horoabei is another nature reserve in Dâmbovița County.
Zimbrăria Neagra was established in 1983 to promote the adaptation of the European bison to the lowlands. In Pădurea Neagră near Bucșani, it has 162 hectares of enclosures between the Crivăț and Neagra streams. Zimbrăria Neagra offers a nature excursion during which visitors can observe the European bison kept there.
Regional routes
The Circuitul Turistic al Capitalelor Țării Românești connects Bucharest, Târgoviște, Curtea de Argeș and Câmpulung. The “Ruta secretelor județului Dâmbovița spre munții Bucegi” is 119.8 kilometres long in total and has been recognized as a cultural-tourist route.
“Dâmboviţa 4 x 4” is an off-road track in Dâmboviţa County.
Museums and markets
The museums in Dâmbovița are open year-round, including on public holidays; Mondays as well as days with announced works or unforeseen events are excluded.
At the traditional annual fair in Voinești, cheese, traditional meat products, vegetables, fruit, beekeeping products and traditional beverages from the Dâmbovița Valley and beyond are offered.
