Nature and Trails

From the upper end of Sasca Montană, you can reach the Șușarei Gorge. A trail leads to Cascada Șușara, the waterfall. The path is shaded and easy to walk. The Pârâul Șușara is located in Sasca Montană on the way to Cascada Șușara. There, it is one of the natural attractions. The Fosta Moară Turcească can be seen on the way to Cascada Șușara.

The trails connect several named natural sites: the Șușarei Gorge is located at the upper end of the village, while Cascada Șușara can be reached via the shaded path. The Pârâul Șușara is also located along this path and is listed there as a natural attraction. The Fosta Moară Turcească can be seen along the same route.

The Șușarei Gorge forms the access route, the Pârâul Șușara accompanies the trail, and Cascada Șușara marks the destination. The Fosta Moară Turcească completes this sequence as a visible point along the same route.

Churches and Mining History

An Orthodox church is located in Sasca Montană. It was built in 1778. In 1851, it was painted by the painter Dimitrie Turcu from Oravița. The “Naşterea Maicii Domnului” Church in Sasca Montană dates from 1771. It has a traditional iconostasis.

The collection at the Victor Tăutu Museum includes rocks and ores. These come from the now-closed mines of Sasca. The collection also preserves objects and information about the past and history of Sasca Montană. The Roman Catholic church is a testament to Sasca Montană’s heyday as a mining town.

The two references to churches point to different construction dates and preserve their own distinctive features: the 1851 paintings in the Orthodox church and the traditional iconostasis of the “Naşterea Maicii Domnului” Church. Together with the museum and the Roman Catholic church, they reveal several specific traces of the town’s history.

The Ruga satului of Sasca Montană is the church’s patronal feast. It takes place on 29 June. The Feast of Saints Peter and Paul the Apostles is celebrated.
