Glimboca brings together sacred buildings, marked long-distance trails, mountains in the immediate and wider regional surroundings, as well as firmly established commemorative and church festivals. Between historic churches, scenic viewpoints and special destinations along the railway line, a diverse picture of the travel destinations around Glimboca emerges.

Trails and landscape

The Via Transilvanica is a 1,400-kilometre long-distance hiking trail that crosses Romania diagonally from Putna to Drobeta Turnu Severin. In Caraș-Severin, it passes through a series of more than 20 localities, including Glimboca. The Via Transilvanica is intended for travel on foot, by bicycle or on horseback. The major northeast–southwest connection and the various permitted modes of transport give the trail a distinct supraregional character.

Mount Măgura Măgulicia lies in the surroundings of Glimboca. The wider regional surroundings contain several scenic viewpoints with different names and terrain categories: Piatra Chisei is a summit, Măgura Margei is a mountain and Măgura Marga is a summit. When planning active days, the current trail conditions should be checked for a route, and the applicable route information should be checked for a cycling tour or horseback ride.

Churches and spiritual places

The Church of “Adormirea Maicii Domnului” in Glimboca was built between 1790 and 1794 in the Baroque style, using stone and fired bricks. Biserica Prisaca and Biserica Căvăran are also located in the surrounding area. Biserica Mâtnicu Mare is situated in the wider regional surroundings of Glimboca.

The “Duminica Sfinților Români” hermitage can be reached via DN 68 on the road between Caransebeș and Hațeg; it is another 2 km from Glimboca. The Oastea Domnului celebration takes place every year on the third Sunday of Lent, known as Cross Sunday. When visiting for a religious event, the current event times and date should be checked before travelling.

Special places and memories

The Tunelul Iubirii is located on the railway line between Caransebeș and Băuțar. Visitors explore it, while photographers and couples come here to take romantic photos. The Crucea Eroilor de pe Muntele Mic monument is also located in the wider regional surroundings of Glimboca.

Every October, Glimboca hosts a festival commemorating the choreographers Afilon Lațcu and Ioan Muntean. The “Ostașului Necunoscut” monument, honouring heroes who fell in battle, stands in front of Glimboca cemetery. The Orthodox church festival “Hramul Bisericii Ortodoxe” and the Ruga are held in the municipality of Glimboca on 15 August.
