Oarja: Churches, Monuments and Transport Routes

Oarja is home to the Church of “Sfinții Arhangheli Mihail și Gavriil”. It is a historic monument.

Culture and History

The Church of “Duminica Tuturor Sfinților” is located in Oarja. It belongs to the Oarja parish. It is an Orthodox church.

The Oarja war monument takes the form of a column. The column is 3.50 metres high. Its base is stepped and prismatic. The shaft has a square ground plan. The structure also includes a capital and a ball attached to it.

The individual structural elements are thus preserved from the base to the upper finish: the square shaft follows the prismatic base, with the capital and ball above it. The main inscription commemorates the heroes who fell in the war of 1916–1918. It records that residents of Oarja and other donors erected the monument.

The cross monument in Oarja commemorates those who fell in the First and Second World Wars. It was erected in 1921. Thus, two different forms of remembrance stand at the site: the column-shaped monument with its detailed main inscription and the cross monument from 1921.

The wooden church in Belegani is located in the village of Ceaușești, in the municipality of Oarja in Argeș County. It bears the older dedications “Sfinții Voievozi” and “Cuvioasa Paraschiva”. The churches mentioned in Oarja are therefore joined by another sacred building within the same municipality, whose dedications are explicitly recorded as older.

Roads and Transport

The Bucharest–Pitești motorway runs through the municipality of Oarja. Its route through the municipal area is approximately 6 km long and lies in the northern outskirts of the municipality.

The Pitești–Ștefănești county road runs through the southeastern part of the municipality of Oarja.

The DC 111 Oarja–Bradu road begins at the DJ 659. It ends in the municipality of Oarja. Its two named endpoints and its connection with the DJ 659 are part of the road layout described.

Oarja has no railway connections. Via a bypass route, Oarja is approximately 16 km from Pitești.

The transport routes are arranged differently in spatial terms: the motorway lies in the northern outskirts, the county road in the southeast, and DC 111 runs from the DJ 659 into the municipality of Oarja; there is no railway line.
