The Muzeul Municipal Câmpulung was officially founded in 1889 and was one of the first museums in Romania. Its historical exhibition covers the history of the Muscel region from the earliest times to the end of the 20th century. The museum displays archaeological finds from the Bronze Age, Hellenistic imported ceramics, Roman ceramics and weapons from the excavations at Castrum Jidava. The Muzeul Municipal Câmpulung also has a natural history collection. Another exhibition features works by Romanian artists from the interwar period or the period immediately after the Second World War.
The ethnography and folk art section of the Muscel region at the Muzeul Municipal Câmpulung is located in Casa Ștefănescu, a building dating from 1735. Vila Gică Ștefănescu, now the Museum of Ethnography and Folk Art, also dates from 1735.
