Rogojina – Churches, Budeasa Lake and Cultural Heritage

Rogojina has a parish church dedicated to Saint George the Great Martyr and Saint Voivode Neagoe Basarab. Construction of Rogojina’s new parish church began in 2017. A new iconostasis was also consecrated when the new church was consecrated. Locals associate Rogojina with the rogojina, a traditional mat made of woven reeds. The church associations and the traditional name for the reed mat thus stand side by side as distinct testimonies to the place.

Water and Nature

Budeasa Lake is part of the Natura 2000 site ROSPA 0062 “Lacurile de acumulare de pe Argeș”. The area was designated because it is home to bird species of Community interest. The surroundings of the Budeasa Reservoir include deciduous forests, orchards and agricultural land. Typical marsh vegetation is more pronounced at the far end of the lake. The host municipality of Budeasa lies at the confluence of the Argeș and Vâlsan rivers at the Budeasa-Bascov Reservoir. Thus, named watercourses, the reservoir, shoreline areas and different types of land use come together at the body of water, while the protected area’s name explicitly refers to the lakes of the Argeș basin.
