Culture and History

In the centre of Bradu de Sus stands the Biserica „Buna Vestire“. Around 1753, a small wooden church with the same patron saint was initially located on the site of today’s church. The present-day Biserica „Buna Vestire“ was consecrated on 20 September 1885. Thus, this site connects the early wooden church with the later church building, whose patron saint remained unchanged.

The Biserica „Buna Vestire“ in the village of Bradu is designated as a tourist destination. In the village of Geamăna, which belongs to the municipality of Bradu, the Biserica „Înălțarea Domnului“ is designated as a historic monument. Another date is associated with the Biserica Rotulești: it is dated to 1872. The three churches represent different historical connections within the municipality and its villages.

Landscape and Local Character

Bradu is a compact terraced settlement along the DJ 659. The villages of the municipality of Bradu are situated on three terraces on the right bank of the Argeș and in its floodplain. Bradu lies within the catchment areas of the Argeș and Neajlov rivers. Thus, within the municipality, the elevated settlement areas of the terraces meet the lower-lying floodplain landscape of the Argeș.

The location on the right bank of the Argeș and in its floodplain shapes the geographical classification of the villages belonging to the municipality. Together with the DJ 659, the three terraces and the two river catchment areas form the key spatial features of Bradu. The three terraces and the floodplain refer to different locations within the municipality. In this spatial classification, the Argeș is present both as a right bank and as a floodplain, as well as as part of the catchment area; the Neajlov is included through the shared catchment area.

Agriculture and Community Life

Bradu is a grain- and vegetable-growing area. Agriculture is therefore one of the explicitly mentioned characteristics of the locality. The municipality’s annual cycle also has fixed reference points: the Community Day of the municipality of Bradu is associated with the last weekend in May, while the Festivalul Toamnei of the municipality of Bradu is associated with the end of October.

At the Căminul Cultural Bradu, courses in traditional singing led by Claudia Șerbănescu were planned as part of the „Vocea Bradului“ group. The cultural venue, the group name, the named leader and traditional singing are all part of this community life, as are the two seasonally anchored dates.

Aviation Sports and Transport Links

The Aeroclubul Piteşti uses Aerodromul Geamăna in Bradu as a training base for powered flight, parachuting, gliding and paragliding. Aerodromul Geamăna is therefore associated with four training areas of the Aeroclubul Piteşti: powered flight, parachuting, gliding and paragliding.

Bradu provides access to the A1 motorway and the DN 65 B national road. In addition to the route through the locality along the DJ 659, the A1 and DN 65 B are therefore also part of the transport links mentioned.
