Pietroșani: Historic Churches and Valleys

Pietroșani is a transit commune on the wooden carved churches route of Argeș County. County road DJ731 runs through Pietroșani and connects the locality northwards with Domnești, Corbi and Nucșoara, and southwards with Coșești and Dărmănești, where it ends at the DN73.

Culture

In Retevoiești, the Cula Drugănescu is a registered historic monument. The wooden church “Naşterea Maicii Domnului” in Gănești is registered as a historic monument dating from the mid-19th century. Its relief-carved central band is shaped like a rope; it also features a memorial corner for those who fell in the First and Second World Wars, as well as a gravestone in the porch.

The church “Sf. Nicolae”, “Cuvioasa Paraschiva” and “Sf. Filofteia” in Bădești is a historic monument dating from 1896–1902. The present-day church “Sfânta Treime” in Retevoiești was built between 1795 and 1796. The first known church in the village of Retevoiești was built in 1516 during the reign of the holy prince Neagoe Basarab.

The “Siliște” archaeological site lies between Retevoiești and Vărzăroaia on the right bank of the Râul Doamnei. It preserves a medieval settlement, boyar estates and a church. The “Monument al eroilor căzuți în Primul Război Mondial” in Pietroșani is a rectangular marble slab bearing a dedication and the names of 30 heroes who fell in the First World War.

The historical evidence in Retevoiești thus connects several eras: from the first known church dating from 1516, through the present-day Sfânta Treime built between 1795 and 1796, to the Cula Drugănescu. In Gănești, the striking woodwork adds to the information about the monument, while the memorial corner and gravestone constitute further specific features of the church.

Landscape

The Valea Rudii Valley in Pietroșani lies on the site of the village’s old settlement and begins at Piscul Doamnei, where it converges with the Valea Bădeștilor and Valea Iudei. In the area of Pietroșani commune, the valley of the Râul Doamnei widens between the hills of Voineagul, Sălbișul, Muschiosul, Goila and Dadele.

Experiences

Alex & Ema Land amusement park was established on October 10, 2012. Historical-themed workshops were offered at Alex & Ema Land, including “Legendele Olimpului”, “Misterele Egiptului Antic”, “Legenda lui Minos și Labirintul Minotaurului”, “Vlad Țepes și Turcii” and “Camelotul și Cavalerii Mesei Rotunde”.

Traditional workshops such as weaving and textile work, wood carving, pottery and decorating Easter eggs were offered at Alex & Ema Land.

The historical themes combine Greek mythology, ancient Egypt, Minos and the Minotaur, Vlad Țepeș and the Turks, as well as the world of Camelot and the Knights of the Round Table. Alongside these, textile work, wood, clay and Easter egg decoration represent different craft specialities.
