Memorial complexes and monastic culture

The Mateiaș Mausoleum is a historic monument. It is dedicated to the heroes of the 1916–1918 war for national unification. The Mateiaș Memorial Complex also includes a military history museum, a bas-relief and a stone bowl from Albești. An eternal flame burns in this bowl in memory of the fallen soldiers. The complex thus combines its dedication to the war heroes with a museum, bas-relief, stone bowl and eternal flame as several forms of commemoration.

Nămăiești Monastery is located in the municipality of Valea Mare Pravăț. The monastery church houses the miraculous icon of the Mother of God. The monastery also includes the Museum of Romanian Folk Costumes, which displays more than 150 costumes from Muscel, Argeș and Dâmbovița. Alongside the icon, the costumes from Muscel, Argeș and Dâmbovița add a regional cultural accent.

Another cultural connection leads to the George Topîrceanu Memorial House. The building is a farmhouse built in 1900, where the poet spent eight years of his life. The memorial house thus connects its construction year, 1900, with the poet’s eight-year stay.

Several peaks are also located in the vicinity of Valea Mare Pravăț: Colții Blajeni, Plăișoru, Runcu and Stimtu-Clăbucet. The four peaks expand this cultural local reference with individual landscape references in the vicinity of Valea Mare Pravăț. The four peak names can be included in your own orientation as separate landscape references in further travel planning from Valea Mare Pravăț.
