Culture and History

In Ciolcești, in the municipality of Leordeni in Argeș County, stands the Casa Memorială “Dinu Lipatti”. The building is a villa that Constantin Lipatti, the violinist and father of Dinu Lipatti, had built between 1938 and 1942 in the Neo-Romanian style. Ciolcești is also home to the Expoziția Memorială “Dinu Lipatti”. The exhibition can be visited Monday to Sunday from 09:00 to 17:00.

The wooden church of Glâmbocata-Deal (Călugărița) in the municipality of Leordeni is dedicated to the “Nativity of the Lord”. It dates from 1746 and is an architectural monument of national interest. As the church of a nuns’ skete, it served as a religious community site. The present-day church of Leordeni-Cretulescu was built between 1858 and 1861 in place of an older church dating from 1745. Its trefoil ground plan comprises the altar area, naos, pronaos and vestibule. There is a tower above both the pronaos and the naos.

The church of Leordeni-Golescu was founded on 15 August 1835 by the great boyar Iordache Golescu. Thus, church buildings from different centuries stand side by side in Leordeni: the wooden church of Glâmbocata-Deal dates from 1746, the older church of Leordeni-Cretulescu from 1745, while the present-day building of Leordeni-Cretulescu was constructed between 1858 and 1861.
