Culture and History

A historic monument in Bascov is the wooden church dedicated to “Sf. Gheorghe”. The church was built in the mid-18th century. Its founder was the merchant Martin Buliga from Pitești. The six windows of the wooden church have carved frames with different decorative motifs. This sequence of motifs ranges from crosses and diamonds to ivy leaves and rosettes, as well as “alveole” and the “tree of life”. The individual ornaments give the wooden building a richly detailed, craftsmanship-oriented appearance.

The building stands approximately 300 metres from the civic centre of Bascov commune. In Argeș County, the Wooden Churches Route includes wooden ecclesiastical monuments in the territory of Bascov commune and in the village of Glâmbocu. For visits to such cultural attractions, current opening hours or local information can be checked before arrival.

The Bascov Cultural Centre conducts programmes and projects in the fields of culture, information and lifelong learning. A cultural event dedicated to the Ia was held in Bascov and included the exhibition “ZIUA IEI. Expoziție de Port Popular”. At the Ia cultural event, the Doina Bascovului ensemble presented singing and dancing performances for the audience. Event dates and start times should be checked before visiting time-sensitive cultural offerings.

Nature and Landscape

The 162-hectare Lacul Bascov bird protection area extends across the two localities of Bascov and Budeasa. The protected area comprises the water surface of the Bascov Reservoir on the Argeș River. Thus, protected-area status, a reservoir and a river landscape come together in a clearly designated natural area.

Bascov commune includes part of the floodplain of the Argeș River and the Cotmeana Plateau. Cotmeana is a relatively level transitional landscape between the Subcarpathian hills and the plain. The local water network of Bascov commune includes the Argeș River, the Bascov stream, and the Bascov and Budeasa reservoirs. For excursions to bodies of water and into open landscapes, current road or weather conditions can be checked before setting out.

Geographical Setting

The paved DN7-E51 road runs for approximately 7.5 kilometres through the territory of Bascov commune. It connects Bascov commune with Pitești and the commune centre with the western villages of Glâmboc, Valea Ursului, Brăileni, Mica and Prislopul Mic. In the centre of Bascov commune, the DJ703 road also branches off from the DN7-E15 towards Pitești–Curtea de Argeș. Current traffic and transport conditions should be checked before travelling on these roads.

Leisure and Events

The Brăileni picnic and recreation area was developed by Bascov commune. It was based on a participatory budgeting project.

On 15 May 2026, the Islaz picnic and recreation area in Aninoasa, in the village of Brăileni, Bascov, became a venue for entertainment, exercise and artistic performances.
