Sălătrucu – Hiking Trails, Waterfalls and Culture

In Sălătrucu, the Izvorul Scării valley forms a cascade of waterfalls with a total drop of approximately 200 metres. This cascade includes the waterfall known by locals as Cascada Pișătoarea, with a continuous drop of 50 metres. The names refer both to the entire waterfall valley and to the individual, continuous drop within this cascade.

Hiking

The mountain hiking trail leads from the Topolog Valley to Șaua Scării. It is designated as a summer route with a duration of three hours, and its marking is a blue cross. From Sălătrucu to Șaua Scării, a trail is referred to as Traseul 15 Cruce Albastră. It follows a 33-kilometre-long forest road. On the route from the Sălătrucu area, Șaua Scării is reached at an altitude of 2,152 metres. Nature

Culture

From the centre of the village of Văleni, a local road follows the stream to Mănăstirea Văleni. Mănăstirea Văleni is administratively part of the Sălătrucu commune. The first church of the Văleni hermitage was built in 1691–1692 by Zaharia Grădişteanu. The Sălătrucu-Bocănita monastery complex dates from the late 19th to the early 20th century. Schitul Bocănita was a small idiorhythmic monastery complex from the late 19th century. The “Sf. Nicolae” church in the Sălătrucu commune is a local architectural monument from the 16th century. It was rebuilt in the 18th century and in 1811. The centre of Văleni, the course of the stream and the aforementioned religious buildings are each specifically located in relation to the village and commune.

Cycling

The Via Valahia reaches Sălătrucu after passing through Țara Loviștei. Between Căineni Vâlcea and Târgoviște, the Via Valahia is approximately 150 kilometres long. It can be completed in full or in part on foot; likewise, it is possible to cycle the entire route or sections of it. One cycling route leads from Curtea de Argeș to Sălătrucu along the DJ703H and follows the Topolog River. Another cycling route begins in the Vidraru area, leads via Poiana Runcurea and ends in the Sălătrucu commune in the Topolog Valley. Thus, the cycling routes include specific starting and destination points, a named road section, a river course and the approximate total length of the Via Valahia.
