Wine at the winery

Cantina Santa Maria La Palma is open to the public for guided tours and wine tastings. It was founded in 1959. Before the wine tasting, visitors can explore the production facility; the tasting therefore follows a look at the production process. At “4 Sensos”, the format includes a guided tour of the winery and a tasting of four wines or labels. At “3 Binos”, it includes a guided tour of the winery, three wines for tasting and typical products. In the tasting section, four wines or labels at “4 Sensos” are contrasted with three wines and typical products at “3 Binos”.

Traditions of the Nurra

The Festa della Tosatura conveys the values and traditions of the agro-pastoral Nurra and addresses milk processing from milking through to cheese production. Educational workshops demonstrate the preparation of ricotta and sweet dishes.

At the Festa della Tosatura, the care of the animals, milking and shearing were demonstrated. The processing of milk into its secondary products, as well as the processing and use of wool, were also shown. Tastings of cheese, ricotta, yoghurt, Casu axedu and sweet dishes made from them, as well as cooked mutton for adults, were planned for the Festa della Tosatura.

Church and cultural programme

The parish church Chiesa di Santa Maria La Palma was inaugurated in 1953 and built by ETFAS (Ente per la trasformazione fondiaria e agraria in Sardegna). Its Marian dedication gave the entire hamlet its name.

From 15 July to 18 July 2026, the programme “Una tarda al Burg / Una sera al borgo” was scheduled to take place in Santa Maria La Palma. It included theatre, music and events in the Algherese language.

Landscape in the surrounding region

In the surrounding region of Santa Maria la Palma, a narrow paved road branches off the SS 291 between Fertilia and Santa Maria la Palma and leads to Monte Doglia, the highest elevation in Parco di Porto Conte.

From there, the 360-degree view extends across the Bay of Porto Conte, the coast towards Porto Ferro and the Gulf of Alghero. Also visible are the Calich wetland, the park’s adjacent agricultural area, the Sassari area and the neighbouring municipalities of Alghero.
