The church is regarded as an architectural masterpiece by Cano and was built in neoclassical forms on the site of an earlier Romanesque-Pisan church.

Archaeology and wetland

Santa Filitica comprises the remains of an imperial Roman villa, a settlement of Byzantine culture and numerous traces of continuous settlement from the 3rd to the 9th century AD. The Stagno di Platamona is one of the most important and extensive wetlands in northern Sardinia.
