Monte Lerno: Forest Landscape with Varying Elevations

The Monte Lerno forest complex extends across more than 2,800 hectares in the Pattada area. Its elevation ranges from 400 metres to Punta Campanile, the mountain’s summit, at 1,093 metres. This range encompasses different elevations, forest areas and mountain formations within Monte Lerno. When exploring the area, you should therefore plan for both its size and its range of elevations.

The forest complex is mainly accessible via the S.P. 128 to Ozieri-Pattada and via the SS 389 Pattada-Budduso.

Mountains Around Pattada

Several mountains form part of the landscape surrounding Pattada. Monte Orulò, Monte Lerno and Monte Fraidorzu are mountains in the vicinity of Pattada. Punta Covecada is also a mountain in the area surrounding Pattada.

Knives, Churches and Regional Culture

The knife-making tradition can be experienced particularly vividly at the Museo Culter. The Museo Culter has a production workshop where knives are still forged using traditional methods and typical materials. Visiting hours are scheduled for 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the morning, and in the afternoon from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in summer and from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in winter. These differing opening times are relevant when planning your day if you would like to combine traditional crafts and culture with other experiences.

Another specific stop is Santa Sabina, the parish church of Pattada. The wider surrounding region also includes Romanzesu, an archaeological ruin site, and S. Antioco di Bisarcio, a church. The cultural offering therefore ranges from traditional crafts and sacred architecture to an archaeologically significant site.

The “Biennale del coltello di Pattada” takes place every two years in August and showcases knife collections belonging to local and international collectors. The event provides a recurring cultural highlight and makes the importance of knives to Pattada visible beyond the Museo Culter workshop as well.
