Lu Bagnu between Beach, Sea and History

Lu Bagnu combines a Sardinian coastal town with diverse landscape and cultural features. Lu Bagnu is associated with the bathing waters known as “Lu Bagnu – Castelsardo”. To the west, Punta La Capra borders the town and forms a distinct coastal point at the edge of the townscape.

Beach Access Points and Nearby Coastal Spots

In the centre of Lu Bagnu, a descending staircase leads to Lu Bagnu beach. Another staircase from the Lu Bagnu area leads directly to Sacro Cuore beach. The nearby area also includes the beaches “Spiaggia di Lu Bagnu” and “Spiaggia di Punta Li Paddimi”. Those who want to vary their beach day geographically therefore have one access point in the centre, another in the local area and additional beaches nearby.

Punta La Capra: Rocks, Sea and Water Sports

Punta La Capra has a different coastal character from the beach access points in the town. The seabed there is partly rocky and partly sandy, with a medium depth. The coastal point is associated with windsurfing and sailing; the combination of rocks and sea forms a natural pool there. At Punta La Capra, two water activities and a changing seabed therefore come together. Punta La Capra can be reached via a small side road off the Strada Statale 200, which opens to the left almost at the end of the 26th kilometre. A sign there points to the sea and the car park. When planning the day, it is possible to distinguish between access in the town centre and the approach to this coastal point.

Mountains and Distinctive Landscape Features

The surrounding landscape includes the mountains “Monte Oschiri” and “Monte Elias”. “Monte Oschiri” is located near Lu Bagnu. “Monte Elias” is also situated in this area. The ruins “Roccia dell'Elefante” are also located nearby. Those looking for landscape features beyond the beach will find the ruins “Roccia dell'Elefante” in the surrounding area, in addition to the two mountains.

Castelsardo and Cultural Discoveries

The nearby area includes the “Museo dell'Intreccio Mediterraneo”, “Castelsardo Castle” and the church “La Cattedrale di Sant'Antonio Abate”. The historic village of Castelsardo is situated on a promontory. Doria Castle now houses the Museo dell'Intreccio Mediterraneo. The ancient Roman baths on Via Marche are also located directly in Lu Bagnu. They are considered a site of cultural and archaeological significance. Via Marche lies within Lu Bagnu, while the promontory provides the geographical setting for the historic village of Castelsardo.
