Holiday apartment in Cheremule: Volcanic Landscape and Petroglyphs

Cheremule combines a landscape shaped by volcanic formations with archaeological remains and distinctive natural sites. Monte Cuccuruddu beside Cheremule is a 680-metre-high cone of an extinct volcano. In its pine forest, it offers walks along a maintained path leading to the summit. For a walk, the summit is clearly defined as the endpoint of the path.

The area around Cheremule is characterised by volcanic craters in the Meilogu region and was declared a protected natural monument in 1994. The landscape around Cheremule includes small hills with both pointed and rounded forms, as well as flat areas. When observing nature, these forms offer changing contours between hills and plains.

The Su Tippiri woodland is an oasis for protecting wildlife, with holm oaks, downy oaks and dense Mediterranean maquis. Nature observation there focuses on the tree species and the dense maquis.

Archaeology between Domus de Janas and petroglyphs

The Parco dei Petroglifi comprises 37 Domus de Janas. Eighteen Domus de Janas were excavated at Museddu and can now be visited. The park provides the broader context, while Museddu places the excavated structures in the foreground.

The Tomba Branca in the Tennero necropolis has a dromos entrance leading through a recessed doorway into a rectangular chamber. The Tomba Branca hypogeum is also characterised by petroglyphs engraved into the walls of the dromos and beside the entrance. In this way, the spatial form of the entrance is combined with the incised signs on the dromos and at the entrance.
