Platamona has two distinctive sides: Platamona Beach is a long, wide coastline with fine sand in the centre of the Gulf of Asinara. The Stagno di Platamona wetland is around 3 kilometres long, up to 250 metres wide and covers approximately 95 hectares. Natural environment at Stagno di Platamona

The Stagno di Platamona wetland is fed by the Rio Buddi Buddi, which supplies it with fresh water. Endemic plant species and rare plants grow in the wetland and along its shores. Stagno e Ginepreto di Platamona is a Site of Community Importance (SCI) and belongs to the Natura 2000 network. Entry to this SCI area is free.

Stagno di Platamona provides a habitat for breeding waterbirds, including mallards, purple gallinules, western marsh harriers and white herons. This makes the wetland suitable for nature photography and birdwatching. It is precisely this combination of waterscape, plant life and bird species that gives your stay a different rhythm from a day spent purely swimming.

Beach and practical orientation

A staircase at the Rotonda di Platamona provides access to the beach. The bathing area has wide wooden walkways suitable for wheelchairs, pushchairs and pedestrians, connected to arrival areas and reserved parking spaces for people with disabilities. The beach also has 16 equipped rest areas with parasols, chairs and support handrails, as well as showers.

Until 30 September 2026, free supervised bathing is available at Platamona Beach from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. This clearly time-limited beach service is part of the practical orientation on site, alongside the existing walkways, rest areas and showers.

Cycling and walking routes

The „In bici sul Litorale“ route can be completed by bicycle or on foot and leads to Stagno e Ginepreto di Platamona. The Cammino di Santu Jacu includes a guided section through the pine forest beside Stagno di Platamona, which partly runs along wooden walkways. Its route runs between pine and juniper trees, parallel to the shoreline of the wetland.

This allows you to plan different kinds of days for your holiday: fine sand and beach, nature photography and birdwatching, or a route by bicycle and on foot. The „In bici sul Litorale“ route and the Cammino di Santu Jacu appeal to different forms of activity, so you do not have to commit to just one way of exploring.

From Sassari, the SS 131 leads northwards to the Platamona/Buddi Buddi turn-off shortly after Ottava. On the SS 200 between Porto Torres and Castelsardo, take the turn-off to Platamona after 8.5 kilometres.
