Church, Architecture and Pilgrimage

A new square was inaugurated next to the Church of Our Lady of Fatima to make the place of worship more accessible and easier to use. The parish church itself was built from sandstone between 1948 and 1954. Its elliptical floor plan and recessed portico give the building distinctive architectural details that you can specifically appreciate during a culture-focused stay.

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Fatima apparition, the church of La Muddizza was recognised by Pope Francis as a jubilee church. Pilgrimages were possible there from 13 May to 13 October. Alongside the landscape, this adds a spiritual history with an international ecclesiastical connection.

The Chiesa della Madonna di Fatima is a symbol of the community’s identity; an extraordinary history connects it directly with the Vatican. The church also contains a large statue of its patron saint, donated by Pope Pius XII. This building therefore brings together the history of the community, its connection with the Vatican and a specific sacred work of art.

On the second Sunday in August, La Muddizza celebrates the feast of Saint Anthony of Padua, who is the parish’s co-patron saint. This tradition adds a festive date in the annual calendar to the church’s history.
