Burkersdorf on the Blue Flut

Burkersdorf is located along the middle course of the Blue Flut. In the village centre, by the sports ground, there is a playground for children up to the age of 14. Here, two clear landmarks come together: the riverside location and a place to play in the heart of the village.

The playground equipment includes a seesaw, a bird’s nest swing, a climbing frame and spring rockers, as well as a nest swing, a spring rider and a hexagonal climbing element. In the Nobitz destination: cycle routes, aviation and countryside

The wider Nobitz destination offers additional themes that appeal to different interests. For cyclists, the Pleiße Cycle Route is a regional landmark: it is around 100 kilometres long, with 40 kilometres running through Altenburger Land. The route passes through Nobitz, where it crosses the “Altenburg–Colditz” cycling tour. The Way of St James passes through Borna and Altenburg, continues through the municipality of Nobitz and on to Zwickau. Another kind of route is the Sculpture Trail, which follows the Sprotte through the municipality to the Selleris weir. Check current route conditions before setting out on a specific tour; for the Way of St James, it is also worth checking the waymarking.

The Museum Flugwelt Altenburg-Nobitz focuses on the history of technology. Founded in 2004, the Flugwelt Altenburg Nobitz association presents the history of the airfield and aviation topics in a historic building at the airfield. Numerous original aircraft can be seen outdoors; guided tours take visitors through the Greguet Atlantic maritime reconnaissance aircraft and the Trans-All. From April to October, the museum is open on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. As opening hours are seasonal and may change, it is best to check them before your visit.

The nature oasis in Saara combines information about the surroundings with distinctive individual features. Three large panels cover the mill, park avenue trees, the birdhouse, nesting boxes and hedges. Five smaller information panels feature a millstone, a baking recipe, two riddles and a specimen tree. There is also a wooden mill that visitors can walk through, with a place for children to sit. So if you are out with children, you will also find a very practical detail here for taking a break.

Churches and architectural history in the municipality

The church in Maltis is known for its intact 16th-century rural furnishings. Notable features include a gravestone for Johannes v. Maltitz dating from 1398, a Poppe organ, and carved figures of angels and Christ on the pulpit. Other churches have their own distinctive architectural features: Zürchau church has tracery windows dating from the time it was built, and Mockern church houses a carved Madonna. In Saara, the words “Make use of time” appear on the church tower clock face instead of numerals.

Numerous striking half-timbered buildings are part of the region’s rural architecture and shape the character of Nobitz and its districts. In the district of Gieba, a restored farmhouse stands, considered the oldest farmhouse in the Altenburg area. Those more interested in the landscape than in architectural history can also make a note of the Leinawald forest and the Märchensee lake within it as a regional point of interest. The Nobitz destination therefore brings together a range of themes: cycling and hiking routes, aviation, church art, historic buildings and nature.
