Culture and History
Reinhardtsthal City Park is a protected historic park of significance for garden art and local history. It was created between 1926 and 1933 and officially opened on 20 May 1933. Its original network of paths has been preserved; overall, the park remains largely in its original condition and documents the history of urban green spaces from the period in which it was created.
Hartha's history also stretches far back: the city's name is first documented in 1233 in the founding charter of the nearby Geringswalde Monastery. The present-day town church is the fourth church on this site. Construction of the current building began with the laying of the foundation stone in 1868, and it was consecrated on 13 November 1870. Its distinctive features include cast-iron columns, reinforced-concrete elements, and stained-glass windows from 1892 and 1897.
Public Places
The Hartha Observatory is located at Töpelstrasse 49 in Hartha. Visits are possible without prior registration on Fridays from 7:00 p.m.; observations depend on clear skies. The observatory's lectures are open to everyone and do not require registration.
Hartha's weekly market takes place on Thursdays around the Froschbrunnen fountain. Sonnenstraße City Park also has a balance course used by children.
