Culture

The planned large St. Mary’s Church was never completed; what remains is primarily the choir. St. Mary’s Church has a Late Gothic hall with a net-rib vault and a three-sided chancel termination. The western twin-tower complex of St. George’s Church in Rötha dates from the 12th century. The three-aisled Late Gothic hall church, built around 1500, adjoins it.

Nature

The Rötha reservoir is located in a landscape conservation area. Walkers and anglers can relax there and enjoy nature. There are well-developed cycling and hiking trails at the reservoir. Rötha is a destination for nature lovers and a starting point for hiking or cycling.

The main path through Rötha Palace Park leads from Böhlener Straße to the former palace site and continues into the floodplain forest. Its pond and old trees provide places to linger; a monument commemorates the meeting of monarchs during the Battle of Leipzig.

Trails

The Saxony Luther Trail leads to Rötha via Kreudnitzer Straße and, through the town center, continues along Marienstraße to the town hall. The route of Leipzig’s Green Ring reaches Rötha and continues through the town center toward Böhlen.

Getting There

From Leipzig Central Station, take the suburban train to Böhlen and then the bus to Rötha Markt; from there, it is about a two-minute walk. By car, Rötha can be reached via the B2 and via the A72 exits near Böhlen or Rötha.
