Culture and History
A late Romanesque fortified church is located in the village centre of Bennewitz. The Sorbian circular village structure has been preserved around it. A stone-arch railway bridge stands on the Leipzig–Dresden railway line and is recognised for its significance in railway and architectural history.
The village church in Deuben is a medieval chancel-tower church that was later altered in late Gothic and Baroque forms. The Dutch windmill in Grubnitz is described as Saxony's oldest tower Dutch windmill and is significant in terms of the history of technology. Leulitz Manor is a simple Baroque building with a Renaissance-era seat-niche portal.
St. Lawrence Church in the village of Leulitz was built in the 14th century and has Gothic windows and a vaulted interior. The cemetery in Bennewitz contains the grave monument of the soldier Siegfried Kummer, dating from 1939. It is presented as an example of wartime burials of soldiers in their home communities.
Getting Around
A section of the Mulde Cycle Route along the Vereinigte Mulde runs through Bennewitz. Bennewitz is also described as a starting point for water-based activities on the Mulde.
Marineking offers SUPs and paddle boats for groups of up to ten people; a shuttle service is available for different starting and ending points. Bennewitz is connected to the B6, the B107 and the Leipzig–Dresden railway line.
